Jobs and Internships
Internships: Summer and Fall 2012
Now seeking bright, passionate students who’d like to work with us to lift up what works to break cycles of poverty, trauma and violence. The Full Frame Initiative may be the perfect setting for your internship or practicum placement in public policy, social work (macro practice), public health, psychology or related field. FFI will provide interested students opportunities to develop projects that are aligned with the students’ educational interests. Student interns will be mentored by trained and experienced staff.
Policy Intern Summer 2012: The Policy Analyst will be responsible for researching and analyzing federal domestic violence policy and funding to identify the embedded definitions of “success” for domestic violence survivors within various agencies’ policies and funding requirements. This project will lay the necessary groundwork to contextualize the state-level policy work FFI is undertaking in Massachusetts and California. FFI believes diverging assumptions about success often result in systems, policies, services and informal community supports all working at cross-purposes, to the detriment of survivors. We are working with policy makers to better align systems so that they support better outcomes for domestic violence survivors, their families, and their communities. An undergraduate degree is required for this position and a stipend is available.
We also currently have several projects that would make great internships for undergraduates, this summer or fall. A stipend may be available, depending on grant funding; however, these are primarily unpaid positions. College credit may be available depending on the requirements of your college or university.
Research Intern: this position provides the successful candidate an opportunity to focus on a range of tasks around collecting, organizing and presenting information related to challenging social issues. S/he will assist the development of fact sheets and related materials about FFI’s Five Domains of Wellbeing (safety, stability, mastery, social connections, and meaningful access to mainstream resources) and will support project staff by researching topics that are pertinent to our work (e.g., juvenile justice, domestic violence, child welfare, etc.) The intern will also be responsible for helping develop a system to organize the literature and research findings so that it is easy to access by staff in multiple locations. The ideal candidate has access to and experience using academic databases to seek out published research findings.
Communications & Social Media Intern: this position provides the successful candidate an opportunity to focus on a range of communications tasks, including writing, editing and message development. S/he will assist in the development, editing and production of FFI’s e-newsletter; help implement our social media strategic plan (e.g., improve our engagement with allies and supporters via our web site, Facebook, Twitter, etc.); and participate in the development of new collateral material (organizational brochure, hand-outs, etc.) that describes our work to various audiences. The ideal candidate has some experience with graphic design and is an experienced user of social media.
Development Intern: this position provides the successful candidate an opportunity to focus on a range of fundraising and organizational capacity tasks so that FFI has the resources it needs to sustain its work and growth. S/he will research and organize information about foundation grants that are prospective sources of funding for FFI and its projects; assist with current donor stewardship (meeting preparation, letter writing, etc.); and identify and assess opportunities for FFI to increase its pool of volunteers and to otherwise gain non-financial support and resources to advance its mission (e.g., FFI is in the Google for Nonprofits program but is only using a fraction of what is potentially available to us).
Please Note: We are open to discussing with the right candidate “mixing and matching” aspects of the three positions sketched out above. We are not anticipating bringing three undergraduate interns on board simultaneously, but wanted to provide an overview of the various opportunities the organization can offer at present.
